The spooky looking skullcap happens to be a very important herb commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The root of the plant is used to make what is called Huang Qin. It’s an essential ingredient for clearing toxic heat, drying dampness and it works as a natural antibiotic. It’s included in a wide variety of herbal formulas.
Huang Qin is used in correlation with other herbal ingredients to treat conditions like coughing with phlegm, fever, diarrhea and irritability. It helps to stop vomiting/coughing up blood, nosebleeds and bloody stool. It can also be used with other herbs to help rid jaundice.
Huang Qin is included in the San Huang San formula, which is applied topically to encourage the healing of sprains and injuries. It cools the area to reduce swelling and promotes blood flow to the area for accelerated healing.
If you experience upper respiratory problems like a cold, or any of the symptoms described above, Dr. Caron can create a custom formula for you using Huang Qin. We also have San Huang San made right here in the clinic, so if you get a sprain or trauma come try it.
